Sheffield Wednesday could welcome back Fernando Forestieri and Marco Matias for tonight’s clash with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Jos Luhukay finds himself under pressure at Hillsborough and takes his side across the Steel City this evening for a clash with Sheffield United, who are well in the mix for automatic promotion.

Despite the odds stacking up against Luhukay and his side ahead of this evening, Forestieri and Matias are back in training for the Owls to give the Dutchman a boost.

Sky Sports’ pre-match preview has revealed that the attacking pair could return after their hamstring injuries, with both in contention.

Forestieri has been absent since early October, whilst Matias hasn’t featured since Wednesday’s win at Aston Villa.

In the absence of the duo, Wednesday have slipped down the Championship table and enter this evening’s clash seven points adrift of the division’s play-offs.

Luhukay’s side have lost their last four matches, including last weekend’s clash with Norwich City, which the Canaries won 4-0.

Despite the boost of Forestieri and Matias returning to training, the Owls are still missing some key players, with Gary Hooper and Kieran Lee amongst those who have been out long-term.

The two last featured in 2017.

The Verdict

It remains to be seen whether Forestieri and Matias are risked, but their return to action is timely and encouraging.

Wednesday need a spark this season to turn things around and this duo could give them that.

Supporters will hope to see at least one in the starting XI to aid Steven Fletcher.
