Sheffield Wednesday summer signing Will Vaulks is nursing a quad niggle but there is hope the issue won't hamper much more of his pre-season, according to the Sheffield Star

The 28-year-old joined the Owls on a free transfer after being released by Cardiff City but is yet to be seen in a Wednesday shirt and missed the opening game of the League One club's pre-season friendly against Alfreton Town on the weekend.

The Sheffield Star has reported that Vaulks' absence was due to a quad issue that he is suffering from.

However, it is said there is hope at the Yorkshire club that he will be able to recover from what is a minor injury soon and can return without missing much more of the Owls' pre-season preparations.

Vaulks is one of six new signings that have arrived at Hillsborough already this summer as Darren Moore looks to lead the club back to the Championship.

The Welshman looks likely to be a regular fixture in the Wednesday side in 2022/23, with Massimo Luongo's departure having left a space to fill in the centre of the park.

The Verdict

Overall, this looks encouraging news for Wednesday supporters as some may have been worried that Vaulks' absence was evidence of a bigger injury.

It appears it is just a quad niggle keeping him out and one that the club hope he can recover from soon.

The midfielder is a Championship quality operator and an excellent addition but as with all new signings, a strong pre-season would be vital in helping him have success at Hillsborough.

The longer he is sidelined, the less time he has to get settled and develop an understanding with his teammates ahead of the new campaign.
