Sheffield Wednesday's crushing 3-1 home defeat against Championship strugglers Birmingham City was compounded by two red cards.

They finished the match with nine men but Jos Luhukay will be able to call on Marco Matias, who was dismissed in the first half, after his red card was overturned following a successful appeal.

That means that he will be available for the club's short trip to take on Barnsley in a Yorkshire derby on Saturday when both sides will be looking to secure the win both for bragging rights and to alleviate their respective relegation fears.

Despite that, it must be a source of frustration for Luhukay that his side's hopes of launching a comeback on Saturday against the Blues were blown out of the water somewhat because of a decision that went on to be overturned.

The Verdict

Wednesday are slipping down the league at the minute and that adds another layer of importance to an already huge match against Barnsley.

Luhukay will want as many options available to him as possible and as such, this news is a big boost indeed.
