The injury to Leeds United utility man Stuart Dallas is reportedly not serious and shouldn't keep him out of action for too long.

The 28-year-old has been a key player for Marcelo Bielsa's side this season–starting every league game and performing a range of roles, including left-back, right-back, and central midfield.

Dallas started in central midfield in the 2-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and suffered an injury late on.

Though he looked visibly in pain, he stayed on the pitch until the final whistle and Bielsa was unable to provide much information on the issue after the game.

Phil Hay from The Athletic has reported that Dallas had a scan on his calf on Monday, the results of which have ruled out any serious injury and shown the issue is not as bad as previously thought.

Hay was unable to provide a return date but claimed that the 28-year-old "shouldn't be out for too long".

The Whites have been in poor form since the start of the festive period, winning just once since the 10th of December.

That run has seen them lose their place at the top of the Championship and meant the gap between them and third-place side Brentford has closed to just six points.

The Verdict

This is a real boost for Leeds as Dallas has been a really useful member of the squad this season, filling in wherever he was needed and in many ways, embodying Bielsa's mantra of "side before self".

Given Adam Forshaw's long-term absence, losing the Northern Irishman for a significant period could've spelled real trouble for the Whites.

It will be interesting to see who steps up in place of Dallas against QPR. Robbie Gotts impressed in his debut against QPR, while Jamie Shackleton has got some U23 minutes under his belt since returning from injury.
