A solution has been found that will allow Coventry City to resume playing home games at The CBS Arena, West Midlands mayor Andy Street has claimed.

So far this season, Coventry have been unable to play a single home game at the ground, with league matches against Rotherham and Wigan both postponed.

Meanwhile, the League Cup clash with Bristol City was moved to Burton's Pirelli Stadium, all of which has been due to the state of the pitch at The CBS Arena.

The stadium is also used by landlords Wasps, and hosted the Rugby Sevens tournament during the Commonwealth Games earlier this month.

Now however, it seems it may not be long until Coventry are back playing games in front of a home crowd this season.

Providing an update on the situation, Street was quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I hope that Championship football can resume at the CBS as quickly as possible.

"A number of conversations have taken place and I am pleased to confirm that progress has been made. Coventry City and Wasps appear to have found a solution for this season.

"As mayor, I've always been willing to try to play my part in helping to step in and resolve disputes across our region."

Coventry's next scheduled home game is on Saturday afternoon, when Huddersfield Town are due to make the trip to the CBS Arena.

The Verdict

This will be a big relief for everyone of a Coventry City persuasion.

For starters, the Sky Blues are already facing something of a fixture backlog, with those two games they have to fit in at some point, and they will not want many more to come into that category.

It is also worth noting that the club face losing some revenue as a result of these postponements, which could also bring further unwelcome distractions of a dispute with Wasps, and some financial issues.

As a result, this is a promising update for Street to have issued, especially given there will be plenty of Coventry fans desperate to get back to watching their team at their own ground again.
