Ipswich Town have enjoyed an almost perfect start to the League One season, with Paul Lambert's side managing to remain unbeaten in their opening eleven matches and record 27 points to leave themselves top of the table.

That remarkable start to the campaign, is even more impressive considering the way in which the Tractor Boys suffered relegation from the Championship last term, and Lambert has recruited well and managed to galvanise his squad for the challenge of bouncing back at the first time of asking, something which looks a real possibility with Ipswich currently six-points ahead of third placed Peterborough United.

One thing that has been key to that start, has been the consistency in terms of both the performances and the team-selection from Lambert so far, especially in the midfield area with both Cole Skuse and Flynn Downes striking up an excellent partnership to help provide a base for the Tractor Boys to build from.

However, Downes has suffered a hip injury whilst on international duty for the England U20's, which could see the midfielder ruled out for Ipswich's trip to Accrington Stanley at the weekend - and that will be a blow for Lambert's side given how well the 20-year-old has been performing in his eleven league appearances so far.

Downes' injury, though, offers a potential opportunity for fellow midfielder Emyr Huws to lay down a first team marker, with the 26-year-old being in and out of the side so far this season, making six league appearances - and given the effective partnership formed by Skuse and Downes it was looking a difficult task for him to force his way into the side.

Huws has been hoping to get his career back on track this season, having suffered an injury nightmare over the last two-years following an awful knee injury picked up December 2017, and the 26-year-old has shown real determination and desire to get back to full fitness and start to challenge for a place in Ipswich's midfield.

The midfielder will have been pleased to have made an impact on Ipswich's first team so far this term, but will now be hoping that Downes injury could offer him a chance to impress Lambert and earn a regular starting birth - and Huws has already demonstrated the qualities he offers in possession with the ability to make things happen during his appearances this term.

It will be important that he begins to find some consistent form, and if selected to start in place of Downes at the weekend, it will be a huge opportunity to start doing that, which is something he will need to do if he is going to complete his recovery and establish himself as midfield regular for the Tractor Boys.
