In Monday night’s FA cup replay between struggling Championship side Reading and cup specialists, Bradford City, it was the Royals who progressed into the semi finals of the prestigious cup.
Reading will now face cup favourites Arsenal on the 18th or 19th of April which will again see their league fixture postponed, similar to their game against Birmingham City which was due to happen on Tuesday 17th of March.
After a flying start which saw the home side storm into a 2-0 lead within nine minutes thanks to goals from Hal Robson-Kanu and Garath McCleary, the game was set out for what could have been a romp. However, as the away team started to settle on the ball, the game became a bit more balanced with both teams enjoying plenty of possession.
Unfortunately for the League One side, things couldn’t have gone any worse in the second half as they pushed for a goal which could have got them back in the game. Bantams midfielder Filipe Morais saw a straight red for a studs high challenge on Reading midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah.
When he saw red in the 63rd minute, Bradford’s task became that much more difficult and the tie was put to bed a few minutes later as inform striker Jamie Mackie scored his fifth goal in six games to seal a 3-0 win for the convincing home side.
