Leeds United and Southampton were among a host of clubs interested in signing Armando Dobra before he signed a new deal at Ipswich Town, it has been reported.

The 19-year-old has shown glimpses of his quality to Ipswich fans this season, with the young winger making eight first-team appearances for the Tractor Boys this season.

Three of his appearances have come in League One, whilst five of his other appearances have come in cup competitions as he scored his first senior goal against Luton Town in the Carabao Cup.

Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years?

Dobra is a big talent with great potential, and Ipswich rejected bids in the region of £500,000 from Brighton and Hove Albion back in January as they looked to keep their young starlet at Portman Road.

But now, Dobra has put pen to paper on a new deal in Suffolk, extending his stay at Portman Road until 2023 with the club holding the option of extending it by another year.

According to the East Anglian Daily Times, though, Dobra was a player in demand before signing his new deal, with Leeds, Southampton and Italian side Atalanta said to have been interested in his services.

Leeds have plenty of talented youngsters coming through the ranks at Elland Road, as Marcelo Bielsa looks to guide the Whites back into the Premier League after a lengthy absence.

The Verdict

I'm not sure Dobra would have been too much of a useful signing for Leeds.

They already have plenty of youngsters coming through the ranks - Ian Poveda arrived in January, and he's yet to make his mark in the first-team.

It would have been a bargain of a signing for the Whites, but they should focus on their own players first and foremost.
