Bristol City are well on course to challenge for promotion this season following years of being a nearly team in the English second tier.

With 11 matches played they sit in sixth place, just two points from the summit of the table, and with an unbeaten record that stretches to nine matches now.

They are a side that nobody will want to face, including Luton Town who play host to Lee Johnson's Robins this Saturday in what is a thoroughly intriguing tie for the neurtral.

However, some news on Wednesday will have caught their eye considering their clash in two matchday's time.

On the 23rd of October they welcome Lee Bowyer's impressive Charlton Athletic side to Ashton Gate in what is set to be a thrilling encounter and one that could surely prove a potential banana skin for Johnson and co.

Afterall, having won promotion through the League One play-offs, the Addicks were tipped to go straight back down but instead sit comfortably in tenth place and just two points off play-off pace.

But on Wednesday they were hit with some big news when the club confirmed that Bowyer would not be present on the touchline for the clash, after picking up a three-game band and a £4,000 fine, following comments made in the wake of their home defeat to Swansea City.

It is not the deciding factor that a key player suspension might have proved but the Bristol City squad will surely take a lot of confidence from this news.

Bowyer is, after all, a very talismanic figure and largely seen as the key behind all of Charlton's recent success.

Therefore, not having him barking orders from the touchline will no doubt have a noticeable impact on the South Londoners and offer City an area of weakness to exploit.

Exploiting weak areas, not matter how small, is often what sees a side promoted in a season and the Robins will have the perfect opportunity to twist the knife when Charlton role into town on October 23.

The Addicks are a remarkably spririted side but this will be a blow to them.

Bristol City must now take advantage.
