Oldham Athletic slumped to a heavy 5-1 defeat at the hands of Exeter City on Tuesday evening.

The Latics responded well after going a goal behind to the promotion chasing side, equalising just three minutes after the Grecians took the lead.

City were given a helping hand however when the experienced David Wheater handled the ball on the line, conceding a penalty and being shown a straight red card.

Matt Jay converted the following spot-kick and City would go on to relentlessly add three second-half goals, leaving the Latics and their fans to face the 254-mile trip home with nothing in the bag.

The defeat leaves Oldham with just two wins from their last 11 league games and although they sit 14 points clear of the relegation zone, it was the manner of the performance that has left plenty of  Latics fans disgruntled.

Manager Dino Maamria is already the club's second full-time manager this term, but that didn't stop some Oldham fans calling for him to be sacked.

As well as firing criticism towards the manager, goalkeeper Zeus de la Paz was also on the end of some frustrated comments after the 24-year-old was deemed to be at fault for three of Exeter's five goals.
