Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom has a mammoth task on his hands in the summer when he attempts to completely overhaul the squad inherited from former boss Thomas Christiansen, with the expectant fanbase at Elland Road expecting a turnaround ahead of the new campaign.

The former Barnsley man will have to cut the deadwood compiled during Christiansen’s short reign and a lot of the Dane’s additions will be given their marching orders just a year after joining the club.

The 40-year-old manager will have a wealth of targets in mind and many will expect him to consider a raid on his old side to purge the talent he amassed during his time in the role.

If ‘Hecky’ takes this route, then this quartet could emerge as summer targets…

The Ghanaian full-back’s contract is set to expire in June but Hecky will face a challenge from top-flight sides for his signature.

The defender has flirted with a move for some time and will finally secure the step to the next level in the coming months following an excellent spell in South Yorkshire and Hecky could be tempted to send his old man a message to gauge his interest in a switch across the county.

With Laurens De Bock and Luke Ayling the starting pair either side of the back-line, competition for places would be rife and the money could be spent in a better area with Gaetano Berardi a solid understudy, so I don’t expect this deal to be completed.

The Welsh international has bagged eight times in the league this year in what has been a reasonably productive campaign in a struggling side and would certainly be interested in linking up with his old boss at Elland Road.

Bradshaw is a finisher who would thrive within a better side and at the age of twenty-five owes himself a big move to test himself further up the football pyramid.

Hecky knows what the striker is all about and how to get the best from him and I believe the forward has it in him to score at least fifteen goals a season should he make the switch.

The Tykes fought hard to secure the Scotsman’s signature in the summer and he has performed remarkably since making the switch to English football.

The 22-year-old has proven to be a consistent performer at the heart of the Barnsley back-line, showing wisdom and experience beyond his years and looks destined to play at a higher level.

Having pulled on a red jersey thirty-four times in the league this term, Lindsay is an extremely reliable option with an excellent disciplinary record for a young defender new to the division, with just five yellows to his name all year.

He would certainly improve upon Hecky’s options at Leeds.

On loan from Swansea until the end of the season, McBurnie will be eyeing a reunion with his former boss next year if he fails to break into the first-team squad at the Liberty Stadium over the summer months.

Recently a fully-fledged Scotland international, the forward has been in remarkable form since linking up with the Tykes, with his six goals in just nine appearances keeping the side afloat amidst their relegation battle.

Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal will be keeping a close eye on his development but should the Welsh side survive the drop, it is expected that they will spend big to avoid another relegation scrap.

Should this happen McBurnie could fall further down the pecking order and a permanent switch could be on the cards for the talented 21-year-old.
