Conor Shaughnessy could still depart Leeds United this summer, with a host of EFL clubs in contact over a late transfer for the versatile defender.

Leeds’ focus at this late stage of the transfer window is on streamlining their squad, with departures inevitable.

As per Leeds Live’s Beren Cross, Shaughnessy could be one player to depart Elland Road today, ahead of the transfer window closing this afternoon.

Quiz: Do Huddersfield Town and Leeds United have these 10 things in common?

He told a Q&A: “For Shaughnessy, I understand there are EFL clubs interested and keen to take him before the window closes, but Leeds have not entertained anything formal yet.”

Shaughnessy hasn’t featured for Leeds since 2018 and has really struggled to establish himself under Marcelo Bielsa.

The bulk of the 24-year-old’s 14 appearances for Leeds have come under Thomas Christiansen, who left Leeds right at the start of 2018.

He’s had a loan spell with Hearts, whilst he’s headed out into the EFL on loan with Burton Albion and Mansfield Town too.

The clubs Cross claims are interested in the Leeds defender, who can also play in midfield, have remained unnamed at this stage.

The Verdict

Shaughnessy is well out of the picture at Leeds and it’d be good for him if he could source a move today.

Ultimately, time isn’t on his side, but when you consider the fact that he’s so far out of a the picture at Leeds, something might give even after the window.

Leeds could look to pay up Shaughnessy’s contract, allowing him a move even beyond the window.
