Barnsley are set to beat a host of EFL clubs to the loan signing of Aston Villa's Callum O'Hare, according to Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider.

The attacking midfielder is very highly-rated at Villa Park, impressing in the U23 setup in the past few years.

That saw him make the step up into the Championship squad last season and he ended up making eight appearances in total for the first-team.

However, with the club now in a strong financial position and keeping hold of Jack Grealish, whilst adding John McGinn, they feel he will develop more away from the club as regular football will be hard to come by.

Football Insider have reported that League One Barnsley, who currently sit top of the third-tier, are leading the race for the player and are set to sign the 20-year old on a loan deal ahead of several interested sides.

But, O'Hare may not be immediately available for selection as he is currently returning from a knee injury that he picked up in May, although he is now back in training.

The Verdict

This would be a real coup for Barnsley as O'Hare is a very talented player that many Villa fans feel should've been given more of a chance.

He is unfortunate in that it's Jack Grealish who is the man ahead of him in the team so you can understand why Bruce hasn't used him.

Nevertheless, the talent is there and he could really flourish at Oakwell and playing regularly is only going to help his career.
