Cardiff City are hopeful of finalising a late loan swoop for Leicester City's centre-back Filip Benkovic.

Neil Harris has been keen to bolster his squad ahead of the 5pm deadline this afternoon and the Bluebirds are closing in on the impressive capture of Harry Wilson.

And, he may not be the only player making a temporary switch to the Welsh capital, with reporter Pete O'Rourke confirming that defender Benkovic is in line to sign for Cardiff.

The 23-year-old is highly-rated by the Foxes but he is way down the pecking order at the club and has spent the past few years out on loan as a result.

Benkovic had a particularly productive 18/19 campaign with Celtic, starring for the Scottish giants as they won the treble. Then, last season, the Croatian U21 international had a short stint with Bristol City, scoring two goals in ten games.

Should the deal go through it will be a welcome addition for Harris as he looks to improve his group following a tough start to the season which has seen Cardiff collect four points from four games.

The verdict

This would be a very good signing for Cardiff as Benkovic is a player with huge potential.

For whatever reason, he hasn't really got a chance at Leicester but his time in Glasgow highlighted what a good defender the youngster is. He is aggressive in the way he plays and also capable in possession.

So, this would be a smart addition for Cardiff and they will be hoping that they can get it over the line.
