In a letter sent to the 24 Championship clubs, EFL chief Rick Parry has revealed his plans to bring the season to an end behind closed doors in a 56-day flurry of football - as per the Lancashire Evening Post.

The EFL have also told clubs to not return to training until at least May 16th, and so that gives you the kind of kick-off date this period would have, with us still over a month away from that day.

However, it will be music to the likes of Leeds and West Brom fans who have been waiting anxiously to see if they are going to get the chance to win promotion to the Premier League, or if the Championship is going to be declared null and void.

It looks as though the latter is not being planned for at the moment, though, with the EFL's correspondence also confirming that all remaining Championship fixtures would be played, as well as the play-offs.

The Verdict

We're looking at an eight-week period that would see the end of spring and the start of summer bring the return of the football season in an exciting proposal from the EFL.

Fans want their clubs to be playing as soon as it is safe to do so, and it appears the commitment to finish the campaign remains intact.
