Former Brentford midfielder Sam Saunders has claimed that Bees only have to sell when it's on their terms.

Brentford sold Neal Maupay to Premier League side Brighton this summer, whilst a number of their stars were linked to other clubs around England.

However, the likes of Ezri Konsa, Romaine Sawyers, Chris Mepham and Ryan Woods have left Griffin Park over the years despite impressing for the Bees.

Yet, ex-player Saunders has stated that there is no reason for the club to sell now. He insists that people's claims about the club are wrong when speaking to the EFL's Football League highlights show on Quest.

“Everyone claims that they are a selling club but all four of their front men got bids for this summer and they kept three of them. They sell on their terms and they have to balance the books but they got a great deal for Maupay.”

Brentford haven't had the best of starts to the season and sit 19th in the Championship having won just once.

The Verdict

Brentford no longer have to be a selling club. They have a number of good players, which are huge assets to the club. Not just in terms of playing but also value and they did very well to get the sum they did from Brighton for Maupay.

Saunders is completely right, and he probably knows a bit more than the average supporter as he sees the day to day running of the club given his role helping the B team.

Whilst the approach may frustrate fans at times, they are a well-run club, have a quality squad and a new stadium on the way so it's an exciting time to be a supporter.
