Former Leeds United midfielder David Prutton has backed the Whites to edge out Sheffield United in the race for automatic promotion.

The Yorkshire rivals are separated by just one point as we head into the final five games of the season, with Marcelo Bielsa's side having a slight advantage.

That came after the Blades dropped two points against Birmingham in the week but there's sure to be plenty of twists and turns in the run-in.

However, writing in his Yorkshire Evening Post column, Prutton, who is an EFL pundit on Sky Sports, backed Leeds to see the job through.

"I think they are a group of players that have been elevated across the board by Marcelo Bielsa and it’s a special thing that they are trying to achieve.

"I’ve just got a gut feeling that Leeds will finish second, even in how the games have gone in certain moments."

The two clubs are in action today, with Sheffield United hosting Millwall at 3pm before Leeds welcome Sheffield Wednesday in the evening kick-off.

The Verdict

Leeds are in a fantastic position and with five games to go it's in their hands, so you can see why Prutton believes they will do it.

Yet, the past week has shown us how quickly things can change and in such a competitive division every game is a potential worry.

They have to take it one game at a time, with the focus now on beating the Owls in what will be a hard fixture.
