David Prutton is expecting Barnsley to frustrate Leeds United this weekend and pile the pressure on Thomas Christiansen when they meet at Oakwell on Saturday lunchtime, reports Sky Sports.
Writing in his prediction column for Sky, Prutton has predicted a 1-1 draw between Leeds and Barnsley, with Samuel Saiz opening the scoring for the Whites, before Paul Heckingbottom’s side haul them back.
Barnsley enter the contest in 17th after a mixed start to the season for the Tykes.
Heckingbottom’s side put together a four match unbeaten run over late October and early November, but were halted during the week by high-flying Cardiff City, who were 1-0 victors at Oakwell thanks to a late Callum Paterson goal.
Leeds and Christiansen have also endured a testing start to the season, with the mood around Elland Road significantly souring over recent weeks, after the Whites threw away a magnificent start to the season.
Christiansen’s side have lost seven of their last 10 Championship fixtures, a run of form that has seen Leeds slide down to 10th in the table, with their play-off ambitions fading fast.
Like Barnsley, Leeds suffered a midweek defeat to an automatic promotion hopeful, losing 4-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
Leeds have a terrible record at Oakwell, and Barnsley always appear to raise their game when the Whites visit South Yorkshire.
Christiansen’s side are under pressure and this is probably a fixture Leeds didn’t need this weekend.
Prutton’s prediction seems fair, but Christiansen needs a big performance from his side this weekend, which he could well get.
Narrow away victory.
