EFL pundit makes his prediction ahead of Leeds United’s clash with Cardiff City

David Prutton is expecting Leeds United’s wait for a victory in 2018 to continue this weekend, when Cardiff City visit Elland Road, reports Sky Sports.

Writing in his prediction column for Sky, Prutton is predicting Neil Warnock’s side to head to Elland Road and complete the double over Leeds, with the Bluebirds picking up a 1-0 victory over the Whites.

Leeds are on a woeful run of form, which has seen Thomas Christiansen’s side slide out of the top-six, with their play-off hopes fading quickly and pressure building on the Elland Road chief.

Christiansen’s side went through January without a victory across all competitions, with their Championship form a major worry.

Tuesday night’s goalless draw with Hull City left Leeds in 10th, with Christiansen’s side now facing an uphill battle to close the four-point gap that has opened up between themselves and the top-six.

Cardiff are one of Leeds’ rivals currently occupying a place in that top-six, with Warnock’s Bluebirds in fourth heading into the weekend’s round of fixtures.

Warnock’s side were held to a goalless draw by Sheffield Wednesday in their last Championship fixture, which has left them three points adrift of Derby County, who have taken control of the second automatic promotion spot.

The Verdict

Both Leeds and Cardiff need three points this weekend, it is vital.

Leeds’ play-off hopes are fading and another loss this weekend could spell the end for those hopes.

Likewise, Cardiff can’t afford to lose ground on Derby and Aston Villa, and Warnock will be drilling it into his players how important a victory is this weekend.
