David Prutton is expecting Cardiff City to pile the pressure on Aston Villa and Derby County in the race for automatic promotion this weekend, when Neil Warnock’s side take on Middlesbrough later today.

Writing in his prediction column for Sky Sports, Prutton has predicted Cardiff to beat Boro 2-1 this weekend at the Cardiff City Stadium, with the Bluebirds continuing their surge towards automatic promotion under Warnock.

Warnock’s side enter the weekend’s round of fixtures in fourth, with Cardiff on a five-match unbeaten run in the Sky Bet Championship, having picked up 11 points from the last 15 available.

Cardiff find themselves in a three-way race with Villa and Derby for the second automatic promotion spot, with just a single point separating the three sides heading into this weekend.

Whilst Cardiff find themselves in an automatic promotion fight, today’s opponents, Middlesbrough, are looking to resurrect a play-off fight under Tony Pulis.

Boro currently sit ninth in the Championship table, four points adrift of the top-six, after an inconsistent run of results.

However, Pulis’ side enter this weekend on the back of a victory, having beaten Reading 2-1 last weekend.

The Verdict

Despite Boro’s faltering play-off push, they still have a lot of quality and this will be a tough test for Cardiff.

Warnock will be well aware of Boro’s quality and will have a plan to topple this weekend’s opponents.

As Prutton states, it’ll be a tight contest, and you can see the two clubs sharing the points this weekend.
