David Prutton is expecting Wolverhampton Wanderers to maintain their lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table this weekend when they face Birmingham City, reports Sky Sports.

Writing in his prediction column for Sky, Prutton has predicted Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to pick up three points thanks to a 3-1 victory over Birmingham on Monday evening, as Wolves continue to go from strength-to-strength.

Wolves entered the weekend’s round of fixtures four points clear at the top of the Championship table, which they will be looking to extend on Monday evening when they visit St Andrew’s to face Birmingham.

Nuno’s side have won their last five, whilst Monday’s opponents, Birmingham, are struggling, with Steve Cotterill’s side looking like they could be fighting relegation later this season.

The Blues have shown signs of improvement since the international break in early November, picking up four points from three fixtures.

Birmingham failed to back up an impressive victory over Nottingham Forest at Middlesbrough, but last weekend picked up a morale boosting point against high-flying, Sheffield United.

The Verdict

Wolves are by far the Championship’s standout team this season, and it is looking increasingly likely that Nuno’s side will achieve promotion in May.

It is hard to argue with Prutton’s prediction, as Birmingham and Wolves have had contrasting fortune this season in the Championship.

However, Monday’s clash is a derby and Birmingham will be fired up.

It might be closer than Prutton has predicted, but you have to say away victory.
