David Prutton is expecting Fulham to pile the pressure on Cardiff City in the Sky Bet Championship’s promotion race by beating Sunderland this evening.

Writing in his weekly prediction column for Sky Sports, Prutton has predicted Fulham to record a routine 3-0 victory over Sunderland, with Aleksandar Mitrovic opening the scoring.

Fulham are looking to move back into the automatic promotion places this evening at Craven Cottage, with Cardiff not in action until tomorrow afternoon.

Victory will move Fulham into second and two points clear of Cardiff, who travel to the KCOM Stadium to take on Hull City tomorrow.

Slavisa Jokanovic’s side are on a tremendous run of form and will be confident of continuing that against Sunderland, who have already been relegated.

Chris Coleman’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Burton Albion in the cruellest fashion, with two late goals sending Sunderland towards League One.

Defeat this weekend will mean that Sunderland, who are four points adrift of 23rd, will finish the 2017/18 campaign at the foot of the Championship table.

The Verdict

The table doesn’t lie, with Fulham and Sunderland two clubs in very different positions heading into this weekend’s clash.

Whilst Fulham are clear favourites to pick up three points, it is worth remembering that Sunderland have an excellent record against the Cottagers and beat them earlier in the season.

However, it is hard not to agree with Prutton ahead of this evening. It could be a very difficult night for Coleman and his side.
