Aston Villa head to Loftus Road to face Queens Park Rangers this evening, with David Prutton expecting Dean Smith’s side to lose their second game in the space of four days.

Writing in his prediction column for Sky Sports, Prutton has highlighted QPR’s recent upturn in form and backed them to record a 2-1 victory over Villa this evening.

Smith’s side head to London in a difficult spell, with the ex-Brentford boss still finding his feet at Villa Park after arriving as Steve Bruce’s successor.

A victory against Swansea City last weekend started Smith’s spell in-charge, but Villa lost to Norwich City on Tuesday evening despite taking the lead through James Chester.

Whilst Villa find themselves on a slump, Steve McClaren’s QPR are on the rise in the Championship after a difficult start.

The R’s have won three of their last four, including a midweek victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Tomer Hemed and Nahki Wells were both on the scoresheet in the 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, with that duo sure to be looking to punish a Villa defence that has been leaking goals this season without Sam Johnstone and John Terry.

The Verdict

The form table tells us that QPR should be making home advantage count this evening, so it is easy to see why Prutton is backing McClaren’s side.

However, Villa are welcoming back John McGinn this evening, which is huge.

The midfielder has been exceptional since his arrival at Villa Park and he will improve the side this evening.

If he is at his best, Villa have a chance, but it is hard to disagree with Prutton’s prediction.
