Sky Sports EFL pundit David Prutton has issued his prediction on Nottingham Forest's final day clash with Preston North End, forecasting Chris Hughton's side will end the season with a 1-0 win.

The Reds head into the game without a win in their last five Championship games and knowing that a defeat could see them finish the campaign as low as 19th should results elsewhere go against them.

They welcome a Preston side that are still yet to find a permanent replacement for Alex Neil but have been in brilliant form of late.

The Lilywhites have won three in the bounce, including a 2-0 victory against play-off bound Barnsley last weekend.

In his predictions for Sky Sports, Prutton has suggested that Preston will come unstuck against Forest, however, and forecasted a 1-0 victory for the home side.

That result could see Hughton's side finish the season in 15th, should Blackburn Rovers fail to beat Birmingham City on Saturday.

Preston, on the other hand, would slide down into 14th as long as Stoke City get at least a point against Bournemouth.

The Verdict

While on the surface it looks as though neither side has anything to play for, there are some very interesting storylines heading into this game that will likely make it an exciting encounter.

Hughton will be desperate to avoid ending the season on a six-game winless run, while with a fair bit of change expected in the summer this could the last chance for some players to prove that they deserve to be at the City Ground.

The same can be said for a number of the Preston squad, while interim boss Frankie McAvoy has one more chance to show the club hierarchy why he should be the next permanent manager.

It looks as though it's going to be a close one and a one-goal difference seems a smart call.
