Former Nottingham Forest midfielder David Prutton has praised the impact that Michael Dawson has had on the team since winning a place in the XI.

The 35-year-old initially struggled to get into the side following his arrival in the summer but he has started three of the last four league games.

And, the Reds have kept three clean sheets in those games, with Dawson sure to keep his place for the game against former side Hull this afternoon.

Those contributions have been recognised by Sky Sports pundit Prutton, who told Nottingham Live just how influention the ex-Spurs man has been on the side.

"I don't think it's a coincidence that Forest are defending well with him in the team.

"I'm not saying it just because he's a mate of mine. He brings leadership, character and he has a connection with the Forest that has gone before."

Aitor Karanka's men go into today's game sitting one place outside the play-offs and they will be looking for a victory that could lift them back into the top six.

Forest have successive home games coming up after the trip up north today, against Ipswich and Preston.

The Verdict

The recent clean sheets prove just what Dawson is bringing to the side, with the Reds very hard to beat.

As well as that, Prutton is identifying the other qualities that the centre-back has away from the pitch and you can't underestimate how important his leadership and experience is.

The player will hope to continue that strong form this afternoon in what is a big game for the East Midlands side.
