There’s a huge game at the top of the Championship tonight, with second-placed Cardiff travelling to Aston Villa who currently sit fourth.

Steve Bruce revealed he hadn’t given up on finishing second but knows that they will need to win all their remaining games.

For Cardiff, they are just two points ahead of Fulham after Friday night’s remarkable defeat to leaders Wolves, where Neil Warnock’s men missed two stoppage time penalties.

That presented the Londoners with a real chance of automatic promotion and they could realistically end the night ahead of Cardiff, although they have played a game more.

However, EFL pundit David Prutton is backing the Welsh side to bounce back from Friday’s setback with a 2-0 win at Villa Park, with Gary Madine to score first.

The striker has failed to find the net since making a big-money move from Bolton in January and missed the first penalty against Wolves last time out.

Prutton also acknowledged that defeat would certainly end any outside chance Villa have of making the top two.

Cardiff won the previous clash this season 3-0 back in August.

The Verdict

This is a big call from Prutton as Villa will start as favourites with the bookmakers and Cardiff could be struggling after the manner of Friday’s loss.

Everyone will be interested to see how they respond but in Warnock they have a manager who knows exactly what’s needed at this stage of the season.

Villa’s desperation for a win could actually play into the visitors hands, which will make it an exciting game for the neutral tonight.
