Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland is on his way to Crystal Palace as the Premier League side look to wrap up the signing of the goalkeeper.

Butland has fallen out of favour at Stoke under Michael O'Neill. Adam Davies is now ahead of the former England international, whilst the Potters are looking to do a deal to bring Angus Gunn to the bet365 Stadium on a loan-to-buy contract.

It's left the door open for Butland to depart, with Crystal Palace looking like being the goalkeeper's destination.

As per Alan Nixon on Twitter, Butland has trained with Stoke this morning, but is now on his way to Crystal Palace ahead of a move to Selhurst Park. The aim is for the deal to beat today's 5pm deadline for transfers.

The 27-year-old has made 169 appearances for Stoke during his time with the Potters. Two seasons ago, he stuck around on the back of relegation to the Championship and has contributed to keeping Stoke in the division after a tough adaptation period in the second-tier.

However, he is now looking set for a new challenge in the Premier League with Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace.

The Verdict

Butland's career has been declining at Stoke for some time and it makes complete sense for him to be on the move this summer.

He's lucky in the sense that it's a Premier League club coming in for him, but beneath a complete loss of form is a talented goalkeeper that can still find his way at 27.

Stoke are getting a strong replacement in Gunn, who can really kick-on under O'Neill.

This whole merry-go-round feels like all parties will benefit.
