Charlton Athletic host Portsmouth in this weekend’s biggest game in League One tomorrow evening.

The two teams are separated only by five points as they stand side-by-side in the third tier’s play-off places.

Kenny Jackett’s men recorded their first win since New Year’s Day last weekend to see off struggling Bradford.

It ended a run of five consecutive draws and was their first win in nine matches.

They travel to a Charlton side just below them in the league and unbeaten in four matches.

Lee Bowyer’s side have lost just one game in their previous ten – winning four but too many draws have seen them unable to cut the gap to the four teams further in front of them.

It promises to be an epic encounter in south east London tomorrow between the pair.

Ahead of the fixture between the two teams, David Prutton offered his thoughts on the outcome of the game for Sky Sports.

The EFL presenter predicted: “Charlton still seem to be suffering from the loss of the influential Karlan Grant, as the goals aren't quite flowing in the same way they were before his departure.

“Portsmouth finally got back to winning ways last Saturday.

“Bradford looked desperate at Fratton Park but to win for the first time since New Year's Day will have provided a huge boost in confidence to Kenny Jackett's side.

“But I think Charlton will sneak this one, 1-0.”

The verdict

This is a massive game for both sides who are side by side in the table.

Charlton need a win to cut the gap to those ahead of them, while Pompey need all three points to do the same and move closer to the automatic promotion places.

Jackett’s men picked up an important win last time out, and with Charlton hitting the headlines for their boardroom antics this week, the focus may have been swayed.

I see a Portsmouth win this weekend.
