West Ham host Manchester City tonight in the Last 16 of the Carabao Cup with both sides aiming to try and make it into the quarter-finals of the competition.

David Moyes’ side head into the game in excellent spirits after they managed to secure a 1-0 win against rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at the weekend.

That win saw the Hammers climb up into the top four in the table to continue their strong start to the campaign.

The Hammers have been performing very well in the cup competitions as well as in the Premier League so far this season, with West Ham having claimed three wins in their three group games in the Europa League to top their group.

While Moyes’ side have also managed to claim an excellent 1-0 win at Manchester United in the previous round of the League Cup to show signs that they can potentially take on the top teams.

Manchester City, meanwhile, also head into the game in good spirits with them having managed to claim an impressive 4-1 win against Brighton at the weekend to keep themselves to within two points of league leaders Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola’s side have also managed to keep their cup hopes alive with them securing two wins out of three in their Champions League group.

While they also thrashed Wycombe Wanderers 6-1 with a much-changed team in the previous round of the League Cup.

With all that in mind, we take a look at all the things you need to know heading into the game.

Team News

West Ham are likely to make changes to their side against Manchester City to freshen up their squad and make sure that they keep everyone as fit as possible heading into their upcoming games in the Premier League and Europa League.

Moyes’ side are going to be potentially without defender Vladimir Coufal with him currently suffering a hamstring issue. He might not be risked for this clash against Manchester City as a result.

The Hammers could also be set to be without summer signing Alex Kral who has yet to return to the squad since he recently contracted Covid-19. That means that he will once again be absent from the squad for the visit of Manchester City.

The likes of Alphonse Areola, Mark Noble, Manuel Lanzini and Issa Diop will all be battling to try and earn a place back in the starting line-up having played key roles in the win against Manchester United in the previous round.

Guardiola has already suggested to the media ahead of Manchester City’s trip to West Ham tonight that he could be set to make changes to his side and hand some of his younger players another chance to impress.

City are already set to be without Ferran Torres who is struggling with a foot injury at the moment and that means that Manchester City will remain without the attacker.

Liam Delap is also set to miss out on this one, despite Guardiola offering chances for his young players to impress tonight. That comes with the attacker suffering an ankle injury.

Raheem Sterling, meanwhile, is also a doubt for the trip to West Ham with the attacker missing out on the win against Brighton with a back problem.
