Any Championship side hoping to loan talented Arsenal youngster William Saliba have been boosted by the fact he hasn't made the Gunners' Europa League squad.

The 19-year-old, who signed from Saint-Etienne for £27m last year, spent the previous campaign back on loan in France but he had hoped to force his way into Mikel Arteta's plans this season.

However, for a combination of reasons, that doesn't appear like happening and it has been reported that the centre-back could make a temporary switch to a Championship club before the deadline next Friday to get regular minutes.

And, The Athletic have today revealed that Saliba has not been registered to play for Arsenal in Europe this season, something that would have needed to happen despite his age.

Therefore, they add a loan move to the second tier now seems likely as realistically Saliba's only game time will come for the U23s if he stays with the capital club.

Brentford have been suggested as a potential destination for the French youth international, although a move to Norwich is not going to happen even though they had been linked.

The verdict

This seems like a fantastic opportunity for any Championship side as they would be getting a supremely talented defender who has already made a big impact in Ligue 1.

The update today suggests Saliba isn't going to be playing for the Gunners before the New Year so a loan would appear to suit them and the player.

Ultimately, Arsenal are going to decide where they want the youngster to go and you can imagine there will be a large queue forming of potential takers.
