EFL club set to beat West Ham and Norwich City in race to sign in-demand defender

Swansea City are set to beat West Ham United and Norwich City to the signing of QPR defender Ryan Manning according to Football Insider.

Manning has caught the eye with a number of impressive showings in recent seasons for the Hoops, and it appears as though that hasn’t gone unnoticed.

West Ham have been long-term admirers of signing the Irishman, but Swansea City have seemingly won the race to land his signature on Deadline Day.

Manning made 44 appearances for Mark Warburton’s side last season, as they finished 13th in the Championship table.

He has since gone on to make one EFL Cup appearance in this year’s campaign, with QPR sat ninth in the second-tier standings after their opening four matches of the 2020/21 season.

Swansea are a team that are heading in the right direction though, with Steve Cooper’s side narrowly missing out on promotion into the Premier League last season, after a defeat to Brentford in their play-off semi-final.

But the Swans have started this year’s campaign strongly, and are sat fourth in the Championship standings, after winning three out of their opening four games.

Swansea are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on Huddersfield Town, in a match they’ll be expected to pick up three points from.

The Verdict:

Swansea have done brilliantly to beat West Ham and Norwich to the signing of Manning.

He’s a player that I thought was destined for a move to the Premier League with the Hammers, as they’ve been keen on signing him for the majority of the summer transfer window.

But for Swansea to secure a deal to land his signature is a real statement of intent by Steve Cooper’s side, who already have some strong options available to them.

He’ll add real strength in depth to their team, and I expect the Swans to be mounting a serious challenge for a top-six finish this term now.
