West Ham have failed with a £13m bid for Bournemouth's Josh King as they look to sign the player before Friday's deadline.

The Hammers have been desperate to boost their squad in the past few weeks after a relatively quiet summer window and any deals they want to do before January must come from the Championship.

As a result, they have been linked with a host of second-tier players, with King's name constantly popping up.

And, it appears as though they have firmed up their interest in the Norwegian international after Guardian reporter Ben Fisher confirmed on Twitter that they'd made a £13m offer - which was rejected by the Cherries.

It has also been reported that Bournemouth have been angered by the fact King had spoken to West Ham about personal terms before a fee was agreed between the clubs.

The Premier League side have until 5pm on Friday to agree terms with the south coast outfit and they will hope the fact King's contract expires next year will see Bournemouth cash in on the 28-year-old.

The verdict

In truth, £13m seems a pretty fair fee for a player who has entered the final year of his contract and it's believed that Bournemouth want to sell King because of his wages.

However, they obviously think they can take advantage of the fact that West Ham can't look elsewhere right now, whilst there's also a lot of interest in the forward.

So, the numbers could rise in the coming days and it seems pretty clear that King will secure a move away but it remains to be seen whether he joins West Ham.
