Wigan Athletic have rejected a bid from Leeds United for youngster Sean McGurk, with Scottish pair Rangers and Celtic also keen on the player.
The Whites have been determined to add to their youth ranks in recent years and have already done so via the Latics with the arrival of young attacker Joe Gelhardt.
Indeed, Wigan have been unlucky in having to sell many of their young players after being placed into administration and McGurk could well be the next, though they are putting up a fight.
As per Alan Nixon, United have made an offer for the player that has been rejected, with both Rangers and Celtic keen on him as well:
Leeds. Offer made for Sean McGurk. Latest Wigan whizz kid. Turned down by Latics. Not enough. Contract up in summer so can move then. But danger that Rangers (or Celtic) step in with pre contract in meantime.

Naturally, in Wigan’s predicament, they’d rather fight for as long as possible to try and get as big a fee as possible for McGurk, even if it does continue to run the risk that he’ll end up leaving on a free in the summer.
Leeds, of course, would have to wait until then to get him in and so they have tried to act now whilst Celtic and Rangers, given they are outside of England, can enter pre-contract negotiations already.
McGurk is evidently a talented young footballer with three of the biggest clubs on these shores taking a closer look at him and it just remains to be seen who will prevail.
