Huddersfield Town have been described as the ‘best’ candidate to take Leeds United midfielder, Robbie Gotts, on loan.

Leeds have won promotion to the Premier League, which has closed the door on Gotts’ first-team opportunities somewhat.

Marcelo Bielsa has offered Gotts minutes in just the League Cup this season, a competition that Leeds are now out of.

Quiz: Do Huddersfield Town and Leeds United have these 10 things in common?

A host of EFL sides are interested in taking the 20-year-old on loan from Elland Road, with Huddersfield amongst those.

According to Danny Mills, a move to the John Smith’s Stadium to link up with Huddersfield and former Leeds under-23 boss, Carlos Corberan, makes the most sense.

“A move to Huddersfield would be best,” Mills explained to Football Insider.

“It is vitally important that you choose the right club. When you talk to managers, the loan system is great when you have a certain degree of control over the player.

“If it is a coach that Bielsa has worked closely with, a coach that he knows, that he can pick the phone up to regularly it will be preferable.

“That is why clubs have always wanted B teams. It is always nice to send somebody to someone you know.”

Corberan has started life with Huddersfield in a reasonable fashion. He’s picked up four points from the opening four fixtures of the season.

After back-to-back defeats against Norwich City and Brentford, Huddersfield have responded by beating Nottingham Forest and drawing with Rotherham United.

Next up is a trip to unbeaten Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

It’s hard to not agree with what Mills is saying.

Naturally, the link between Corberan and Leeds means that Huddersfield has to be the player’s ideal destination. Geographically, it makes sense too as Gotts wouldn’t have to move too far afield.

Perhaps the only concern is whether Gotts will get a run of Championship starts under his belt. Then again, Leeds need to back his talent.

A big few days lie ahead.
