Reading are set to complete a double loan swoop for Chelsea defender Matt Miazga and Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria, according to journalist Courtney Friday.

The Royals are reportedly set to announce Miazga's return to the Madejski Stadium, but the announcement could be delayed while a deal is agreed for Ejaria to also return on loan.

The pair first joined Reading back in January following Jose Gomes' appointment as boss, and both men played key roles as the Royals survived the Championship drop last term.

Miazga made 18 appearances at the heart of the Royals' defence where he formed a solid partnership with captain Liam Moore, while Ejaria featured 16 times in his central midfield role.

It is now understood Reading could be on the brink of announcing the return of the loan duo, which is set to follow up the club's recently completed deals for free agents Michael Morrison and Charlie Adam.

The verdict

This is the best news of the summer so far for Reading fans. Miazga and Ejaria were both integral to Gomes' success in the second half of the season.

Miazga will be able to slot in seamlessly alongside Moore in defence, while he also now faces competition for his place from former Birmingham City captain Morrison. Meanwhile, Ejaria could easily reprise his partnership with Andy Rinomhota in the centre of the park and ease Reading's midfield concerns.

This shows that Reading are very much heading in the right direction under Gomes, as the club clearly possesses the ambition to convince such high quality talents to return to the club.

It should also be noted that the club's solid transfer business has so far been completed on a low budget, with free transfers and loan moves clearly the club's priority.
