Reading boss Veljko Paunović has cooled talk that Michael Olise could leave and insists there has been no contact from any clubs for the talented midfielder.

The 18-year-old has been involved in the Royals first-team for a while now but he has really made his mark in the opening weeks of this season. Olise has started every game, with Reading picking up maximum points, and he scored a stunner in the 2-0 success over Barnsley.

Therefore, it perhaps wasn't a surprise to see reports claiming he is on the radar of Premier League clubs, with Arsenal, Leeds United and Wolves all thought to be monitoring the teenager ahead of tomorrow's domestic deadline.

However, speaking to Reading Chronicle reporter Matt Joy, Paunović gave the latest on the situation and he clearly is planning for Olise to be an important player this season.

"It's the first time I'm hearing that. I have no comments. We're focusing on working with him and everyone else to improve the team - I have nothing to say about that."

The verdict

This is the update that Reading fans will want to hear as Olise is clearly a massive talent and he will have a big role to play under the new boss this season.

In truth, it's probably best for his development that he stays. Reading will give the youngster the platform to play regularly and he would not get that at any of the three Premier League sides.

But, if he continues to impress over the coming months then these links won't go away and it will be a matter of time before a top-flight club come in with a serious offer.
