Taking part in an Instagram Q&A on his own channel, Reading midfielder Charlie Adam has revealed that he feels Sir Alex Ferguson was a better manager than Arsene Wenger.

It was one of the great rivalries in the early years of the Premier League as Manchester United and Arsenal went toe-to-toe for the title around the turn of the Millenium - with a fair few flare-ups along the way.

Keane v Vieira was perhaps the most famous battle of all, but Wenger and Ferguson often exchanged words, too, though the relationship has mellowed since and the respect is there for all to see.

It's a debate that will rumble on, though, and, for Adam at least, it's one that is won by his countryman, Sir Alex.

He said simply:

The Verdict

Ferguson will go down as one of the greatest managers these shores have ever produced, whilst Wenger is one of the best imports we've seen in a dugout.

Both had their periods of dominance and both left giant voids to fill at two of the world's biggest clubs but, on sheer trophies, competitiveness and longevity, you'd probably have to side with Ferguson here - though it is a debate that will no doubt continue for some time to come.
