It's safe to say that it wasn't the loan spell that both Eddie Nketiah and the Elland Road faithful would have originally hoped for this season.

The youngster signed for the Whites during the summer transfer window on loan from Arsenal, but saw his game time limited by manager Marcelo Bielsa.

In total, Nketiah made 17 league appearances, of which just two of those were starts in Leeds' league campaign, which will have been frustrating for the 20-year-old.

This prompted Arsenal to recall Nketiah from his loan spell at Elland Road in the January transfer window, and he has since been introduced into the Arsenal first team.

He scored his first goal of the season since returning to the Emirates Stadium at the weekend, as he fired home to equalise for the Gunners against Everton.

Speaking in an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post, Nketiah admitted that he still learnt from his experience out on loan with Marcelo Bielsa's side, despite his lack of regular game time.

"My Leeds experience was good for me, I learned as a player.

"I might not have played as much as I want but I had good moments when I was there when I came on and played. It’s just about learning and developing.

"It started really well, obviously I came on and if you check my minutes to goal ratio it’s quite good but obviously it’s just how things are."

Nketiah and his Arsenal team-mates are next in action on Thursday when they take on Greek giants Olympiacos in the second-leg of their Europe League clash.

Leeds will be hoping they can make it three successive wins in the Championship when they face relegation-threatened Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Wednesday evening.

The Verdict:

He's clearly learnt from his experience with Leeds United.

I'll admit that I was surprised he wasn't given more of a chance with Marcelo Bielsa's side in the Championship this season, especially when Patrick Bamford was struggling for confidence in front of goal.

But he's since returned to Arsenal and is showcasing the talent that he has in the Premier League. I think that Nketiah can succeed with the Gunners, and it's good to see Mikel Arteta giving the club's younger players a chance to impress in the first team this season.

Leeds United could live to regret not playing him if they manage to miss out on promotion into the top-flight this term.
