Eddie Nketiah is continuing to battle for a starting berth at Leeds United, as the Whites prepare for their clash with Cardiff City at Elland Road this weekend.

Leeds find themselves on a seven-match winning streak in the Championship, which has seen them climb their way back to the top of the table.

However, that run has been frustrating viewing for Nketiah, who has watched on from the sidelines for most of that run, making cameo appearances against Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town only.

Patrick Bamford has strengthened his grip on the starting berth, with Nketiah’s chance to start a game coming and going when he was ruled out of November’s meeting with Queens Park Rangers with an abdominal injury.

Now, he’s back involved in the squad, with a focus on wrestling his shirt from Bamford, delivering this determined message on his Twitter account:

So far this season, Nketiah’s 12 Championship appearances have all come from the bench.

However, the 20-year-old has still returned three goals, with a further two efforts coming in the League Cup back in August.

The Verdict

It must be tough for Nketiah at the moment, with the Arsenal loanee surely desperate to play football and show his parent-club, and Leeds, what he can do.

However, Bamford has made himself vital in Bielsa’s system, leading the line with real purpose and earning the respect of his teammates.

All Nketiah can do is work hard and keep his head down; games will come, it is just about being patient.
