Leeds United returned to the top of the Sky Bet Championship table on Wednesday night, with the Whites picking up a 1-0 win against Brentford at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa's side made it two wins in three games at the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic - Patrick Bamford scoring two goals at the DW Stadium.

But there was no such luck for Bamford on Wednesday night, with Leeds struggling to break down a solid Brentford unit for large spells, and the striker heading just wide after David Raya came steaming out of his box.

Bielsa brought on Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah in the dying embers of the game as they looked to pick up their first home win of the season, and the 20-year-old was in the right place at the right time to secure all three points for Leeds.

After tricky wing-play from fellow substitute Helder Costa, the Portuguese wide-man squared the ball to Nketiah who tapped into an empty net to score his second goal in as many games.

After the match, Nketiah took to Instagram to share his delight at scoring his first Elland Road goal, as well as paying tribute to teammate Costa, now seemingly nicknamed "Chef Helder" after putting the ball on a plate for the striker.

Leeds travel to struggling Stoke City this weekend, as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to proceedings.

The Verdict

What an impact Nketiah and Costa made on Wednesday night, and both will be hoping to be rewarded with a start against Stoke on Saturday.

They were brought on by Marcelo Bielsa at the perfect time, as Brentford's defence began to lack fitness and were backs to wall for the latter stages of the contest.

Would Nketiah make the same impact if he started from the off against Stoke? It remains to be seen. I would love to see him up top alongside Bamford more often.
