Bournemouth gained automatic promotion to the Premier League on Tuesday night when they beat Nottingham Forest 1-0.

The game was a close encounter with both sides wanting the win for the prize of automatic promotion.

However after Kieffer Moore came on as a substitute in the 59th minute, he was the man who got the goal getting on the end of a free kick when he was left unmarked.

The Cherries were able to hold on for the rest of the game securing their promotion to the top flight.

Bournemouth last achieved promotion to the Premier League in the 2014-15 season under Eddie Howe who brought them up from League One.

The side were relegated in the 2019-20 season but after two seasons, are back to the top flight.

Former manager Eddie Howe admitted he watched the game as he told journalist Chris Waugh: "I actually sat down and watched the game, and I haven't watched many Bournemouth games since I left. I'm delighted for them and I'm so pleased for Scott Parker, who's done a wonderful job. It's great to see them back."

Howe is now manager of Newcastle United who are also in the Premier League and since coming in has taken them from a relegation battle to tenth in the league.

The Cherries will now have to go up against their former manager next season.

The Verdict:

It's nice to hear Eddie Howe's comments on Bournemouth achieving promotion. After what he achieved with the club, the foundations were built during his time in charge and the fact they are going up to the Premier League again shows how far they've come as a side.

There is clearly a lot of respect between Howe and both the club and Scott Parker which is a mutual feeling. There will no doubt be a good reception for Eddie Howe when he comes up against his former side next season which he will be happy to give back to them.

However whilst Bournemouth are attempting to solidify their spot in the Premier League next season, it looks like Howe's Newcastle side will be further up the table after their takeover and the new ambition on Tyneside.
