Ebanks-Blake will be fit for new season says Chesterfield boss Dean Saunders

After joining the club this summer, fans were worried that the former Manchester United youngster would be a wasted signing, but Saunders believes the player just needs time.

Ebanks-Blake has been plagued by injury since suffering from a broken leg and damaging ankle ligaments in a April 2013 when playing in a Wolves side managed by Saunders.

The 29-year old has since struggled to pick up where he left after two unfruitful spells at both Ipswich and Preston, where in two years he only featured in 18 games between both clubs.

The player not only has Premier League experience from his time at Wolves between 2007 and 2013, but boasts two Championship Golden Boot awards from his six-year stint at Molineux.

Ebanks-Blake joined the Spireites on a one-year deal with a view to a second after his contract was not renewed by former club Preston, and is set to team up with incoming fitness coach Mal Purchase to be fully fit for the 15/16 season.

Speaking on Ebanks-Blake, manager Dean Saunders said; "I know Sylvan from my time at Wolves and I know how good a player and how good a professional he is.

"He has scored goals in the Championship and the Premier League and I'm really looking forward to working with him again because I know we can get him back to that level."

Speaking on his previous season at Preston, Saunders believe the form of deadly pair Joe Garner and Jermaine Beckford kept the player out of the side, which he believed was unlucky.

"He's not really had a chance and he's not had a proper pre-season behind him either" he added.

"He will this time as Mal Purchase is joining us. He is already working with Sylvan. He's worked with Sylvan before and he knows exactly what to do with him. Mal has got hold of him already and come the start of the season he will be right."

Purchase is set to join up with Saunders as part of a new backroom staff at Chesterfield, having previously worked with the former Liverpool striker at Wrexham, Doncaster and Wolves.

Most recently, Purchase has been working in India with Bengaluru FC and Saunders said about his new coach; "They were the fittest team in their league and we will be the fittest team in League One, I guarantee."
