Aston Villa head into the play-offs in the Championship this season as the form side, with 10 wins and one draw in their last 11 matches, which has left the Villans in fifth spot with only one match of their regular season remaining.

For manager Dean Smith it has been an excellent spell with his squad fit and firing, with competition for places, particularly in defence where early season Villa had been certainly threadbare.

So, heading into the play-offs, what is Villa's strongest centre-back pairing?

We discuss........

Gary Hutchinson

“Tyrone Mings and James Chester.

“Mings is a monster when he’s on form.

“Chester brings experience and a calming head.

“It’s surely a no-brainer, isn’t it?”

George Brooks

"It's a close one, Villa have a strong defence but I think Mings and Hause are the strongest centre-back pair.

"The two have a great understanding of each other on the pitch and seem to have a good relationship with each other off the pitch too.

"They are both solid defenders and have both been outstanding for Villa since joining the club."

Toby Wilding

"I think you have to go with the one that has looked the most solid throughout that ten game winning run that has secured Villa's place in the play-offs.

"That therefore would be Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause, who both stepped up immensely to lay the foundations of defensive solidity at the back for that run.

"It has to be a concern for Villa that both are only on loan."

Louie Chandler

"Easily Mings and Tuanzebe for me.

"Tuanzebe has been excellent whenever he has played at centre back this season and he compliments Mings' robustness with a calmness that no one else in the squad offers.

"With Hause and Chester waiting in the wings, Smith finally has a host of strong options but I have no doubts who are the strongest."
