Sheffield Wednesday travel to Preston North End today looking to continue their fine start to the season.

Despite not having a permanent manager in charge, the Owls have managed three wins from four under Lee Bullen as they look to sustain a run at the top six this season after a disappointing campaign last time out.

A midweek win over Luton Town showed that Wednesday have what it takes to grind out wins and that same attitude will be needed today at Preston, who got themselves an impressive 3-1 win over Stoke City at Deepdale during the week.

Wednesday could also be set for a boost to the squad with early team news from the BBC suggesting that full-back Liam Palmer could be set to make a return to the first XI after missing out through injury at Hillsborough on Tuesday.

Interim manager Bullen will be hoping for yet another win as he looks to land himself the job on a permanent basis, and it's hard to see the Owls board not sitting up and taking notice if he does indeed make it four from five this afternoon.

A win today can potentially send Wednesday top of the table depending on other results around the league.

The Verdict

If Bullen gets another win today then he simply has to be given the job, no questions asked.

Who are Wednesday going to get in all seriousness? He's done fantastically well as it is and the players seem to like him.

As for today, Preston is a real barometer of where Wednesday are, and if they can get a win it would send a strong message indeed to the rest of the Championship.
