Birmingham City manager Garry Monk has revealed that defender Michael Morrison will not be missing for as long as initially feared.

His is still set to be missing for up to three weeks, however, and will definitely miss this weekend's clash with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

"Michael Morrison won't be available, but the good news is it's not as serious as we first thought," Monk said at his pre-match press conference.

"He's got a hamstring injury,

"He will be out of action for anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks - it will be dictated by how he is feeling."

The 30-year-old, who has been at the club for nearly four years, had turned out in every match for the club this season and was installed as club captain by Monk, but limped off on the 67th minute against the Robins.

The Blues have faired far better than many expected of them to this season and currently sit in ninth place in the Championship table with 21 games played.

A win on Saturday could see them climb to within three points of Middlesbrough who currently occupy the final spot in the top six.

The verdict

It is hard to know how to feel about this news.

Yes, it is of course great news that he will be out for weeks rather than months, but it is also hard to tell just how much their form might suffer in that time without him.

It will most likely fall to Marc Roberts to replace the captain.
