Sunderland have no fresh injury concerns ahead of their midweek clash with Notts County in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Midfielder George Honeyman is the only slight doubt after picking up a knock on Saturday but the club expects a fully-fit squad otherwise.

"We aren't too bad," assistant manager James Fowler told the club's official media.

"Honeyman is carrying a little of a knock but he is back in training.

"Chris Maguire is better after pulling up in the warm-up. Injury-wise we are good and we'll be close to a full squad."

Maguire and Honeyman have been two of the standout performers in Jack Ross' side so far this season.

Former Bury man Maguire has five goals and four assists in League One so far this season, whilst Honeyman, predominantly playing in a deeper role, has two goals and three assists.

Sunderland were held in the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday, drawing 1-1 away to Walsall, just weeks after 2-2 draw in the league.

The Black Cats currently sit second in the League One table, two points ahead of Luton Town and four points behind table-toppers Portsmouth.

The Verdict

I am sure that plenty of Sunderland fans have very little interest in the Checkatrade Trophy, which is more than fair.

But, it remains important for their season that momentum is not badly interrupted.

A loss to League Two strugglers Notts County would do just that, so as much as they should not risk players unnecessarily, they should also not hold much back either.
