Sunderland boss Jack Ross has provided supporters with a promising injury update ahead of their game against Lincoln City this weekend.

Ross revealed that Aiden McGeady and Marc McNulty have returned to training, and could be involved for their game against the Imps on Saturday.

"Aiden and Marc both trained today, so we'll see how they react to the training session today and then decide over the course of tomorrow what their involvement will be over the weekend.

"They'll make up part of the squad if there's no reaction to today to what happened on the training pitch.

"It was nice to have them back on the training pitch but it’s just about assessing how they respond."

McGeady hasn't featured for the Black Cats since they were forced to settle for a point against Bolton Wanderers, and his seemingly imminent return will be a real boost to Jack Ross' side.

McNulty has been out of action since their game against Rotherham United midway through September and the Scotsman will fancy his chances of returning to the starting XI.

He already has two league goals to his name, and will be keen to add to that tally as soon as possible, as he looks to prove a point to Reading who loaned him out earlier this season.

Will Grigg has struggled for confidence in front of goal so far this season, and is yet to score for Ross' side, which could lead to the Sunderland boss starting McNulty against Lincoln City.

Sunderland will be targeting promotion to the Championship once again this season, after they were beaten by

Some of the club's supporters will argue that this is the ideal time to take on Lincoln, who are without a win in their last seven games in all competitions.

But there is never an easy game in League One, and Sunderland won't be underestimating their opponents at Sincil Bank.

The Verdict:

This will be a huge boost for the Black Cats.

Both McGeady and McNulty have been impressive this season, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were thrown straight back into the starting XI.

They've both already shown that they can be a real threat for Sunderland going forward, and I'd argue that they're both too good to be playing at this level.

Ross will be delighted to have the pair back in action heading into some crucial games in the near future.
