Millwall manager Adam Barrett has offered a fitness update on his squad ahead of this weekend's clash with Brentford at Griffin Park on Saturday.

The headline going into the clash for the Lions is that they will have to do without midfielder Ryan Leonard after he suffered a knee injury in the victory over Leeds United before the international break.

“I think it is a grade two and unfortunately Ryan will be out for a number of weeks," Barrett told his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, reported by South London Press.

“He has got to see a specialist this week and they will determine how long he is in a leg brace, and that in turn will determine how long he will be out for.

“It is really disappointing for all of us, we haven’t got a big squad either."

The 27-year-old had played in ten of Millwall's 11 matches before picking up the knock against the Whites, leaving Shaun Williamson and Ben Thompson as the only other available options in the area.

Leonard arrived at the Den on an initial six month loan from Sheffield United back in the summer of 2018, a move that was made permanent in January.

After that impressive 2-1 victory against Leeds, the Lions rose into 15th place, and they will be looking to advance higher when they travel to Brentford on Saturday.

The verdict

This is a big blow for Millwall and  a big early test for Barrett.

Leonard may not have been in dazzling form this season but he was a much-needed reliable presence in the middle of the park and they have now been left very thin on the ground.

Depending on how long he is ruled out for, it is something they will almost certainly have to adress in the January transfer window.
