Marcelo Bielsa is going to go with Patrick Bamford once again ahead of Eddie Nketiah for today's game against Derby County at Elland Road.

The on-loan Arsenal man scored the decisive opener against Barnsley last time out to make it two goals in four Championship substitute appearances.

However, that hasn't been enough to force his way into the XI, with The Athletic reporter Phil Hay revealing on Twitter that the ex-Middlesbrough man is going to lead the line again - as he has done in every league game this season.

"It’ll be Bamford ahead of Nketiah again today."

In fairness to Bamford, he has enjoyed a very good start to the season himself, weighing in with four goals from seven games, although he has failed to net in the previous two games now.

Bielsa had suggested he would be open to playing the pair together, but that always seemed unlikely given the way the team are playing right now.

Victory at Oakwell six days ago took the Whites back to the top of the Championship ahead of the fixture with the Rams, who haven't won since the opening day.

The verdict

This was always going to be a big call for Bielsa and you can understand why he is maintaining faith with Bamford.

He has a good record this season and his overall game is working well. He is linking play with the midfield, making intelligent runs and is a real threat.

So, whilst you feel sorry for Nketiah, as he can't really do much more, it is probably the right decision to keep him as an impact sub today and he is a wonderful option to have from the bench.
