Derby County manager Phillip Cocu has revealed that defender Jayden Bogle is close on returning to first-team action, but has admitted that the game against Leeds United this weekend will come too soon for the right-back.

The 19-year-old was one of the standout players for Derby last season but has missed the Rams' last seven games, after suffering an ankle injury in the goalless draw against Swansea City last month.

However, the right-back took part in the first half of training today and Cocu revealed at his pre-match press conference that he is not far away from returning to first-team action, although Saturday's clash at Elland Road will come too soon.

Bogle was a key player for Derby last season and played an important role as the Rams reached the Championship play-off final under Frank Lampard, scoring two goals in providing nine assists in 50 appearances in all competitions.

Derby have made a slow start to their new campaign under Cocu and are currently 19th in the Championship table and without a league win since the opening weekend of the season.

Cocu also revealed that striker Mason Bennett will not feature against Leeds due to injury.

The Verdict

Bogle is a promising young player and he played a key role for Derby last season, it'll be a major boost for the Rams when he's able to return to action.

Even though he'll be a big miss against Leeds on Saturday, the fact that he was able to take part in training today suggests he can't be too far away from returning to action, which is very encouraging.

Derby fans will be hoping to see Bogle return to action in the next few weeks and the youngster will be determined to make an impact when he does return to the side.
